掌中之葉

話說佛教徒的行為，也就是信仰佛陀教導的人，其行為應是如何呢？其行為就是身、口、意的行為，而重要的就是——心。

遵循佛陀的教導，我們應該依循做得完全。我們來憶念世尊佛陀的教導：

「諦聽！諸比丘！我手掌中的樹葉與森林裡的樹葉，哪一個比較多？」。

在世尊掌中的樹葉比森林中的樹葉少，全宇宙、全世界的樹葉有無數的樹葉！

佛陀教導：如來所教導給你們的，也就僅是「手中之葉」！而所有如來的教導，簡而言之就是——勿作惡、為善、潔淨心（諸惡莫做、眾善奉行、自淨其意）。

這就是佛陀的教導——要為善、勿作惡。

為善，就是修心，修行毗婆舍那禪修是最高的為善。因此，諸位！我們修行毗婆舍那四念處禪修，可以稱是最高的為善，所以請大家要知道修行毗婆舍那的珍貴！而如此的修行，可以說是住與在佛陀諸教導裡！

The Leaves in the Hand

What should be the deeds of followers of the Buddhist religion? Deeds are performed through the agency of body, speech and mind. And the mind is most important. 

To follow the Buddha’s teaching, we need to follow it completely.

We think of the Blessed One, who asks: “Monks! Which one is more? The leaves in my hand or those in the forest?”

The leaves in the Buddha’s hand are few. Those in the forest, in the whole world, and the whole universe are numerous!

The Buddha states that words of his teachings offered to us are only a handful of leaves. And the briefest summary of all the teachings from the Buddha is abandoning evil, doing good and brightening the mind. This is the teaching of the Buddha, to do good and refrain from doing unwholesome.

The highest form of doing good is training the mind in insight meditation. Thus, our development of insight meditation with fourfold mindfulness is regarded as the highest wholesomeness. 

Let us appreciate the worth of practicing insight meditation. Such practice constitutes dwelling in all of the Buddha’s teachings.

Die Blätter in der Hand

Wie sollten Anhänger der buddhistischen Religion ihre Handlungen gestalten? Handlungen geschehen durch Körper, Sprache und Geist. Unter diesen hat der Geist Vorrang.

Um die Lehre Buddhas zu befolgen, müssen wir sie gänzlich umsetzen.

Denken wir an den Erhabenen, der fragt: "Mönche! Wo gibt es mehr Blätter? In meiner Hand oder im Wald?"

Die Blätter in der Hand Buddhas sind wenige. Die Blätter im Wald, in der gesamten Welt und im ganzen Universum sind unzählige!

Buddha sagt, dass die Worte seiner Lehren für uns nur wenige Blätter sind. Und die allerkürzeste Zusammenfassung aller Lehren ist: Gutes zu tun, Böses zu vermeiden, und den Geist zu erleuchten. Das ist die Lehre Buddhas: Gutes zu tun und das Unheilsame zu vermeiden.

Der höchste Ausdruck des Guten ist, sich in der Einsichtsmeditation zu üben. Eine solche Praxis bedeutet, in allen Lehren des Buddha zu verweilen.

ใบไม้ในกำมือ

การกระทำของชาวพุทธ คือผู้นับถือพระพุทธศาสนา มีการกระทำอย่างไร 

การทำนั้นก็ทำด้วยกาย ด้วยวาจา ด้วยใจ ข้อสำคัญคือ ใจ  

การทำตามคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้า เราจะทำให้มันครบ เราก็นึกถึงพระพุทธองค์ พระพุทธองค์ทรงตรัสว่า  ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ใบไม้ในกำมือกับในป่าอันใดจะมากกว่ากัน  ใบไม้ในกำมือนั้นมีน้อยในป่า  ทั่วจักรวาล ทั่วโลกมีมาก

พระพุทธองค์ทรงตรัสว่า คำสอนของพระองค์ที่สอนให้แก่พวกเรา เพียงแค่ใบไม้ในกำมือ เพราะฉะนั้นคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้าจะย่อให้สั้นที่สุดคือ เว้นชั่ว ทำดี ทำจิตใจให้ผ่องแผ้ว นี้ อยู่ในคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้า ให้ทำดี เว้นชั่ว

การทำดี ทำจิต โดยการเจริญวิปัสสนาเป็นยอดแห่งความดี เพราะฉะนั้น ท่านทั้งหลาย เราเจริญวิปัสสนากรรมฐานในแนวสติปัฏฐานทั้ง ๔  ชื่อว่าเราได้ทำแล้วซึ่งยอดแห่งความดี ก็ขอให้เรารู้จักคุณค่าแห่งการปฏิวัติวิปัสสนา นับว่าเราได้อยู่ในคำสอนของพระพุทธเจ้าทั้งหมด
